Professor Wandt has been Professor of Civil Law, Commercial and Insurance Law, Private International Law and Comparative Law at Goethe University Frankfurt since 1995, where he heads the Institute of Insurance Law (IVersR) and further is a board member of the Institute for Law and Finance (ILF) and the International Center for Insurance Regulation (ICIR). His research focuses on national and international contract, liability and recourse law as well as on the entire field of insurance law.

After studying law at the Universities of Mannheim, Paris and Strasbourg (state examinations in Baden-Württemberg in 1981 and 1984), he wrote his doctoral dissertation on "Geschäftsführung ohne Auftrag im Internationalen Privatrecht" and his post-doctoral thesis on International Product Liability (both awarded the Dr. Kurt Hamann Foundation Prize, 1988 and 1993). He was appointed to the University of Hanover in 1994 with the venia legendi for the subjects Civil Law, Private Insurance Law, Private International Law, European Law and Comparative Law.
